37 Days – Holiday project
Visiting the airport is always quite interesting, but today, in the middle of the holiday’s high season, there was more than plenty going on. Despite the happy holiday makers, I did manage to shoot one photograph almost void of fellow man.

After the usual shopping spree and the all important coffee, it was time for my traditional Saturday morning stroll through the local countryside with the dog. Although looking decidedly black over Bill’s mother’s I managed to get back home in the dry. It did actually rain during the afternoon. but that didn’t bother me at all… I was busy fondling cameras in a large camera shop 🙂

After over eighty years of trading, Zurich’s Duty Free Warehouse closed its gates for the last time on 26th June 2012. The heavy goods locomotive with a handful of trucks was a regular sight as it heaved its way along the roadside track and across the road to the warehouse compound. Now only the rubble remains.
Apparently about a thousand new flats will rise out of the rubble… possibly similar to yesterday’s photo? All will be revealed in a few years time no doubt. Talking of yesterday’s picture… I thought it seemed a bit ‘cut off’ somehow, so I snapped this image early this morning.

Another bit of modern architecture, this rather interesting new building rose up where an old, somewhat tired block of flats used to stand. I have no idea who designed it, but the window frames fascinate me daily as I ride past on the bus.

Today I thought it would be nice to present a bit of modern architecture. Zurich’s Prime Tower is 126 metres high and sits loudly in an up and coming, trendy part of town.
But… oh dear it’s a pain to photograph. For those with wide angle lenses and fancy bits of gadgetry it’s fine, but for someone of humble means like me it was not easy. The thing is simply too large!

I don’t intend to underline the fact that age is creeping up on me, but I remember when ‘wireless’ was another word for radio. Families would huddle together to hear the news on The Wireless: A beautifully polished wooden box that had to be switched on five minutes before your favourite programme started, otherwise you would miss the beginning whilst the valves warmed up.
Today not just the radio, but many other fascinating gadgets seem to work wonderfully without wires, so I’m particularly proud to have an original, working, telegraph pole at the bottom of the garden with lots of old fashioned wires on it. A monument to antiquated technology and the perfect perch for the local blackbird.

As mentioned on ‘page one’ of my homepage, I have now embarked on this one photo per day project. My aim is to take at least one photograph per day during the school summer holidays. No holidays for me unfortunately, I will be working as usual, but the good weather and half empty commuter trains are enough to put me in the holiday spirit.
I hope to take at least one picture per day, straight out of the camera, from Saturday 14th July until Sunday 19th August ( 37 days ) and publish on this blog from time to time.
