March 1st.

If I remember correctly I was, according to superstition, supposed to say ‘Rabbits’ this morning before leaping out of bed. I’m not quite sure why it should bring luck, but then superstition works in mysterious ways. I tend to associate rabbits with Springtime, and as the the last remaining snow diminishes little flowers appear in its wake.

Cranes at dusk

Walking past this very large building site at least once a day I can’t help but be fascinated by the large number of cranes. I have captured one or two images of the site during the last year or so, and the last crane photos appeared on this blog in July last year. The buildings are shooting skywards at an alarming rate and I imagine that some of the fourteen cranes may well be dismantled during the next few months, so I decided to make an image or two while I still can.

Basel-1

Magazine articles, blog posts and forums (yes I know that ‘fora’ is correct) discuss the question of motivation and inspiration constantly. I’ve even mentioned the subject here on my homepage. Fresh places inspire me a lot, and last Monday I was inspired by Basel. The first three images show absolutely nothing of the city, but I hope you like the newest selfie!

New Year’s Eve

Before throwing myself into the evening’s festivities I took advantage of the first glimpse of sunshine for several days. The first image was taken at about 07:41am (The EXIF Data shows 08:41, perhaps I really should put the camera’s clock right). The morning really was beautiful, and although there was plenty of bright sunshine everything was shrouded in a hint of mist. Despite doing a certain amount of experimentation with exposure settings, several of the images did have a distracting blue hue. Not wanting to spend hours on post processing on New Year’s Eve I decided to convert some of the images to B&W.   I really must work on my blue snow syndrome.

A very Happy New Year to all my readers!!

Snow

It’s been snowing relentlessly all day and has now turned quite wintry, which is no big surprise really because after all, it is late December. Despite the cold and snow and not wanting to mollycoddle a weatherproof camera I decided to leave my cosy armchair and take the K-30 for a walk. If you think the snow looks a bit grey on some of the images you’re not mistaken…. very cold, very cloudy, snowing heavily and terrible light.

A dream belatedly come true.

What everybody has been dreaming of since before Christmas has now arrived, better late than never I suppose.  Whether it will still be white tomorrow is another matter and so I thought I’d better enjoy it while I can. Shovelling snow is actually quite a pleasant way to pass the time on a wintry Saturday morning with nothing better to do. Chatting with neighbours who have not been seen since the end of summer and watching snow ploughs eagerly going about their ploughing with their dramatic display of headlights and flashing beacons.  Having cleared the drive and garden path I was sufficiently pleased with myself and so took time off to go searching for a reasonable snowy image or two.

Waiting for a train

Christmas lights are everywhere, the smell of mulled wine and all things festive fills the air.
Where then, you may rightly ask, are all the Christmas market and pretty lights photos?
Well, I’ve certainly been doing my fair share of mingling with the masses but the camera has always been sitting at home.
A colleague pointed out to me this week that my last blog posting was about a month ago!
But, as luck would have it, I missed my train last Tuesday evening and decided to use the time wisely;-)

A Selfie!
For some reason Celebrities seem to do it regularly and various politicians are making quite a name for themselves doing it too,
so I suppose it’s only natural that I too should put my very outdated mobile phone to questionably ‘good use’.
My selfie is unlikely to reach the boulevard press, but that wasn’t really my aim.
I didn’t want to embarrass my family or shock and disgust the world at large either, there are plenty of others willing to do that it seems.
But I thought perhaps a shoe, a knee and a hint of leg would elevate me to the ranks of famous and influential without damaging my reputation.

The other photos were also taken whilst waiting for the train in the recently finished new bit at the main station.

Morning Mist

I had hoped to capture bright images of the sun breaking through the early morning autumn mist. But as I set off (reasonably) early on Sunday morning I realised that I may well have to wait longer than I thought. Indeed it wasn’t until I was already sipping my midday coffee back home that the sun began to make it’s presence felt. Nevertheless with or without sunshine autumn mist never fails to fascinate me, as does the very special smell of autumn.

An idle afternoon

Having spent Saturday pulling out weeds, reclaiming the garden path from the ever encroaching grass and generally doing a bit of cosmetic gardening, I decided to spend Sunday doing very little. While a couple of chickens spent the afternoon roasting in the smoker, I spent a pleasant couple of hours keeping the temperature constant, reading the newspaper and wandering about with my camera. Here are the resulting images from a very relaxing afternoon.

Summer-fourteen 12

This evening my holiday draws to a close and so too does my Summer-fourteen project. Summer 2014 may not go down in history as the warmest or sunniest on record, and photography wise I have experienced more productive summers, but I’ve had fun and that’s surely what it’s all about.  With these few alpine images, taken last Friday, I’ll wind up the summer project… and start looking forward to Autumn 🙂
