37 Days – Holiday project.

Sunday: a day of rest, a day to enjoy the garden, a day to avoid boring everyone with photos of landscapes and everyday scenes. So there I was siting in the sunshine tucking in to a large piece of Alsatian ‘Flammkuchen’. Different pastry, different herbs and spices, different ingredients but otherwise similar to Pizza. I even managed to find a bottle of French wine in the cellar…. didn’t really go particularly well with the Flammkuchen, but after a couple of glasses – who cares.

Day 29 from 37 – 11th August 2012

37 Days – Holiday project.

Having done the shopping etc, it was time to spend a bit of time in the garden. The ‘lawn’ has been taking over areas of the garden where it has no business to be, and the hedge has been reaching new heights. So having tackled the grass, dandelions and all manner of botanical green stuff, I then chopped away at the hedge.

Day 28 from 37 – 10th August 2012

37 Days – Holiday project.

Friday’s are always a bit quieter than normal, and during the holiday period even quieter still, but to sit in a completely empty bus is really quite a privilege.

When I got home I reclined in my favourite deckchair and waited patiently for dinner, tea, evening meal or whatever you call it where you live. Glancing by chance at the chimney against the clear blue summer sky, it’s hard to believe that in about three months time smoke will be rising and I will be sitting with pullover in the warm.

Day 27 from 37 – 9th August 2012

37 Days – Holiday project.

Having a minute or two to spare this evening I thought I’d take a look at the other side of Zurich’s Altstetten station. The side I never visit, the side that holds secrets that would normally never be revealed during my standard, unchanging commuter journey. They have been building, in fact ‘they’ currently seem to be building everywhere.

Lots of concrete and stainless steel, clear lines and modern angles.

Day 26 from 37 – 8th August 2012

37 Days – Holiday project.

Although the faithful Lumix (Panasonic) LX2 is ‘only’ a pocket camera and has nowhere near the weight or bulk of a DSLR with additional lenses and all manner of goodies, I decided to travel light today – and left the camera at home.

To capture an image or two for today’s posting meant going for a stroll this evening. The sun was noticeably lower than usual and the shadows were getting long.

After a glass or two of wine I left the office a bit later than usual this evening, and was a bit surprised at just how quickly the nights are drawing in. The time of evening combined with the summer holidays resulted in an almost empty tram.

37 Days – Holiday project.

Trying to shoot an original photograph of reasonable quality on a daily basis is no easy task. When on holiday, drawing inspiration from unusual sights and foreign charm, things are considerably easier. But I’m not on holiday, and my lens is confronted by very normal, day to day things such as this ticket machine and well used waste paper bin at the local railway station.  Not pretending to compete with The Houses of Parliament or Tower Bridge…… but it does have a certain something….. perhaps?

Day 23 from 37 – 5th August 2012

37 Days – Holiday project.

Although I took few landscapes this morning whilst walking the dog, I couldn’t help thinking that the world has seen them a hundred times before. The countryside around here, together with my hardware but in particular my photographic skills just don’t add up to the fantastic landscapes as seen in books, photo magazines and calendars, that’s why I decided to change direction and do something else this afternoon.

An abandoned watering can has been home to a flower and surrounded by grass and stuff all summer long. Nothing spectacular perhaps, but I thought it was saying far more than this morning landscapes 🙂

Day 22 from 37 – 4th August 2012

I took one or two photos this morning whilst walking the dog, but somehow these poles seemed to stand out above the ‘normal’ landscapes. The rest of the day was spent shopping, weeding and cooking over a hot barbecue.

Day 21 from 37 – 3rd August 2012

Being a warm pleasant evening we decided to visit a nearby restaurant which, having been closed for a long time, reopened its doors this week. With the dog dozing peacefully under the table we tucked into our ice cream and enjoyed the pleasant view.
