Intoduction:

For those interested in Hardware, I purchased a Pentax K30 in August 2013 which I now tend to use all the time. The Panasonic/Lumix DMC-LX2 is still charged up and ready to go if the need arises, and my Sony z3 compact smartphone is never far away.

Before describung the Camera Hardware though, I would just like to mention that I use a Crumpler Photo Bag. A so called 'Light Delight Photo Sling 6000'. It's robust, lightweight and in my opinion looks good too.

PENTAX K30

In the article “Compact or SLR? …..that is the question.” I pondered somewhat long-windedly about the idea of buying a DSLR.

Well, in August 2013 I made up my mind.

Although it was obvious to me that I would choose Pentax, I was further tempted by a good “cash back” deal and the finely chiselled design. Since my evaluation of the K30 began, the K50 was available, and since then many others too but I somehow the K30 just appealed.

Lenses:

smc Pentax18-55mm F3.5 - F5.6 AL WR (Kit lens).

smc Pentax 35mm F2.4 AL (since November 2015)

I occasionally also use the 50mm and the 80-200mm manual lenses from the Pentax ME Super too. (see below).

Panasonic, Lumix- DMC-LX2

The problem with digital cameras is that they age very quickly. Originally I had my heart set on a Pentax something-or-other, but by the time I got round to buying one it had already been superceded.

Announced back in July 2006, the Lumix LX2 had been in the shops about 18months before I actually bought one. Attracted by the Leica lens and the camera's general appearance I finished absorbing all the test reports and reviews, which ranged from good to excellent, and unpacked my new toy in November 2007.

I'm still delighted with it :-)

Pentax ME super, 35mm SLR

This old faithful is almost 30 years old now and has served me very well indeed but now that I've gone digital I hardly ever use it.

Yashica T5 35mm point and shoot camera

I suppose all digital cameras are as easy to use as this – but they are always full of distracting gadgets and programmes. The T5 has no zoom (I've got the Pentax for those sort of pictures) but it is weatherproof, has autofocus, takes really super pictures and sooo incredibly simple to use. A real shame that I never really use it any more. - WRONG! Take a look at my blog entry 2. April 2011
